Back at it

So Brian finished off the family room ceiling with the ceiling, fan, and lights last week. Decided to tackle the hallway wallpaper this weekend. The wallpaper won. They didn't prep the wall and so time to get creative on the hallway. In addition the horrible entryway floor was torn out and replaced. 

Cleaned up a bit

We sort of took the weekend off for the most part and focused on cleaning up around his place. So here are some updated photos with the mess out of the way.

Backsplash

Brian worked on the backsplash all day and it looks awesome. The majority of it is up, just a few partial walls and then on to grouting. Looks awesome. We bought brackets for the shelves to go up between the windows this weekend.

I know I missed an update

So I haven't posted anything in the last few weeks so better give an update. I can confidently say after the last 3 weekends Brian and I are very over painting. But wait, there is more painting to do.

So what have we been working on you ask...after the last post where we painted the bookcases and beadboard in the family room we went on to paint more.

The family room and kitchen walls have been painted. The new baseboards have been put up in the kitchen and hallelujah we have a half bath back after this weekend.

That is the most impressive update visually in the last two weeks because it was such an eye sore before. We have come up with a solution to hide the washer and dryer better than it was with the ugly accordion door that was there before.

We have installed new interior doors to the basement and bathroom, found a place for coats that is not the back of the couch (didn't realize how truly annoying that was until I hung them up today) and painted the chalkboard on the wall (need to frame it out still).

Waiting for my fabric to arrive in the mail so I can make new drapes. The temporary ones we have look like floods now that there is trim around the door. So here are some pictures, enjoy. We are......

Ahhhh-counters

So for the weekly update. We took a slight break from the kitchen this weekend and worked on the family room. The room was a little dark for our taste-dark floors, bookcases and my favorite ugly paneling.

Our mission which we chose to accept (or don't have a choice since everything is torn up) was to paint the bookcases, replace trim and baseboards, and add beadboard.

We still have some work to do on the room but man what a difference. It is so much lighter in here. And anyone that knows me well may be very surprised may paint the room yellow and the more surprising part is Brian is okay with it.

In addition the counters went in today. Amazing. They are great and really tie in with the floors. Better than I could have hoped. The best part someone else did all the work :)

Hello floors

Didn't get a post done this weekend but the theme of the week has been flooring. 2 whole days of laying tile and the kitchen and bath are complete (plus a long night of Brian doing the grout). Happily both cars can now fit in the garage too which is so awesome this time of year.

Brian and the kids went and picked out our 3 slabs of granite this week and we have an installation date of next Tuesday. The plumber is coming tomorrow to install the gas line, then guess what all appliances will be installed and functioning. Woohoo.

Weekend update - cabinets complete

This is what this kitchen should have looked like all along, what a dramatic change. Overwhelming it is so wonderful. Stuff has been put back away so time to tear down some boxes that aren't needed anymore. Lights are almost complete.

Counters will be measured out on Tuesday, hoping they move quickly on them.

Cabinets woohoo

So I don't normally post during the week but I had to share what I came home to today. Brian and Tom started putting in the cabinets today. I was at a loss for words when I got home and saw the progress. Enjoy....I sure am.

I am taking the day off of work tomorrow so we can finish up installing the cabinets but the certainly knocked the heavy stuff out.

Kitchen update - 1 week post demo

So there has been a lot of progress this week though most is not visible. We have completed our first round of inspections and passed. Brian took a deep breath everything looked great.

Electrical work is done which required a lot of time pulling the old wiring and running the new. I know I feel much better knowing Brian did it rather than how it was all wired together. So this means all new outlets (which are all matching and white sorry the retro gold and black ones are done).

We have a few lights in place. The rest will come after the cabinet placement so I can see exactly where I want them.

Drywall has all been patched and the first round of mud has been applied. Tom and Brian patched in the plywood floor to even it out and cement board has gone down. This will give us a nice level space to put down the tile.

Walls have been sanded where the wallpaper was taken down and they are ready to be painted when we are ready to paint.

Wow a lot done and a lot left to do. Starting to get put back together and the progress is awesome!!!
