Where it all began.....

So a few months ago I was given the opportunity to relocate back to Ohio from Texas for work - it meant moving back home.  Everyone was excited but totally not prepared for our house in Texas to sell in 4 short days.

Trip to Ohio here I come.  We found a great realtor who was willing to make herself available - can't say thanks enough Laurie Boudreaux - and planned a whirlwind tour of homes for someone she had only had a brief conversation with over the phone.  My parents had luckily met her in an open house while they were scoping out some homes prior to my arrival.

So leaving my husband and 2 kids behind got on a plane for Ohio.  Landed at 4:30 PM and met both sets of parents and Laurie at the first house at 6 PM.  We went through over 20 houses between 3 hours that Saturday and half a day on Sunday.  It was not an easy decision - every home required some work and my husband wasn't getting to see any of them (well a little of a few via FaceTime).

That Sunday afternoon I made an offer on a place and it was accepted over negotiations/inspections over the next week.  This was a interesting challenge to orchestrate from Texas but just 25 days later we were driving to Ohio from Texas and moving into our new home....of course my husband didn't get to see it until the day before we closed.

What were his first thoughts - well, not that positive.  Over the 25 days they had decided to stop keeping up with the house in the same manner in which I had seen it.  We walked in and it smelled like musty old house and was less than clean.  Good first impression, I could see the list of projects lining up in his head.  It is mostly cosmetic I kept telling him and myself :)

Move in day arrived and we were able to find a home for all of our stuff that was in a larger house previously and it was now our home.  The kids were ecstatic and loved their new rooms.  The house had mostly wood floors and there were two rooms that still had carpet, so what did we do - while unpacking went ahead and tore the old carpet out - what a difference that makes.  Unpacking continued - which we have mastered at this point and was done by the end of the weekend and decorating done that week.

We have now been in the house for about a month and a half.  For anyone that knows us - we don't sit still when there are projects to be done.  So this is where the journey begins as we move through each room of the house and begin the renovations.  I will be tracking our progress and posting before and after pictures for the projects.

  1. As your realtor, I am sooo happy to say you and your entire extended family were a pleaure. Especially on such a whirlwind property hunt.
